The Islands

Up HILO KONA MAUI OAHU KAUAI

This was out first sight of land after 5 days at sea!

We spent a total of 5 days, going between 4 of the 8 major islands.  Yes, there are actually 8, and one of them is so small, it sold about 20 years ago for the princely sum of $6,000!  It currently has about 35 inhabitants.  Our itinerary was Hilo and Kona on the big island of Hawaii, Lahaina on Maui, Honolulu on Oahu and Nawiliwili on Kauai.

Boy, is THAT a mouthful!

On these islands, we shopped, rode Mountain Bikes, snorkeled, watched whales, visited the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri, and dined at a very special beachfront restaurant with views of Honolulu and Diamond Head.   A rather heavily packed 5 days.

During the inter-island trip, we covered 468 Nautical miles, and to/from the islands another 4,648 for a grand total of 5,116 Nautical miles.  According to the cruise line documents, the passengers and crew consumed almost 115 TONS of food and beverages!  We certainly had our share.

During the trip the typical at sea daytime temperatures were 55F to 69F degrees.  We did have some light waves (under 10 feet) but the biggest issues were the FORCE 9 Gale winds we experienced inter-island!  Stabilizers or not, it did get a bit exciting.  Keep in mind the winds the side of the ship blocked, and you can appreciate that the impact of side rolling.

Nonetheless, it was still a GREAT TRIP!

Best vacation we've ever had...
